SIGNS OF SOLIDARITY
Warsaw, Poland 2022
In the beginning of March 2022, I travelled to Warsaw to document the situation in the city that is currently hosting the most Ukrainian refugees. Contrary to expectations, the atmosphere was very positive and calm. Everywhere in the streets you could see symbols, gestures and actions of solidarity.
As a country that was formerly part of the Soviet sphere of influence, Poland feels directly threatened by Russian aggression in Ukraine. The shared experience of occupation and oppression by the unpredictable neighbour to the east has created a strong bond between the two countries. The Polish are doing an impressive job in hosting and supporting so many people from Ukraine.
